Once we would go to a butcher and either have him prepare our own livestock, or we would purchase from him that which came from our local ranchers.. This practice has all but gone away with the advent of national grocery chains and big biz ranchers. Zayconfoods.com is bringing this concept back, but without brick and morter. When you sign up, you pick your local area, and will then be alerted to any event that is held in your area. When an event is held in your area, you will be able to purchase items that come from your local ranchers, or at least nearby ranchers to the area. Meat is sold in 40lb lots, so be prepared to arrange sharing ahead of time, so that others in your neighborhood or family can enjoy as well.. Our first experience was with chicken breasts, and they were quite nice, plump and tasty.. We split 40lbs with a friend from church, and we look forward to filling our freezer on the next go-round..
